What we have planted

I have finally came to update my blog.

We have planted lots of things over the last few weeks. Six fruit trees - 2 of each apple, pear & peach. Grapes, blueberries, & raspberries. We know that it will be a couple of years before we are able to get any fruit. Right now its just making sure that they grow & don't die.

In the herb garden I planted peppermint, spearmint, basil, fennel, chamomile, thyme, lemon balm, apple mint, dill, cilantro, parsley & catnip. I already had sage, rosemary, chives & oregano that I planted last year. Looking forward to being able to harvest & use these in my cooking and making tea from them.

I also added 12 more strawberry plants to my strawberry bed. The plants from last year are doing good.

Now for my vegetable garden - I planted tomatoes, green beans, peas, carrots, lettuce, cucumbers, zucchini, cantelope, green peppers, jalapenoes, hot banana peppers, chili peppers, cayenne peppers, & habanero peppers.  I also have a bed of asparaus started and a bed of rhubarb.

I also planted a bed of lavender.

Now to keep everything watered and weeded. We also have wild black berries growing on the property. Looking forward to being able to harvest those when they are ready.

I also did some baking last week and made some apple raisin muffins & mini loaves. Also 2 loaves of white bread.

Thats all my news for now.

Starting out

I have decided to journal about my experiences on homemaking & homesteading. I am not new to homemaking but I am to homesteading. I hope to one day have our own little homestead that  we will be able to live on and be as much as possible off-grid. So I want to learn all I can now.

We have prepared our garden spots. Looking forward to getting some plants into the ground. Just waiting on the weather to permit that (ole frosty needs to go away).

Yesterday I made 2 loaves of bread and a vinegar pie. Hubby was pleased to have a treat when he got home. Today I have 2 loads of laundry out on the line. Hoping to help cut down the powerbill by using the dryer less.

That is it for now. Enjoy your day.
